See this link for a presentation on proposed draft regulatory changes for commercial kelp harvest from the March 17, 2020 Fish and Game Commission meeting. The proposed regulations will likely change as they identify areas for further consideration and receive input from stakeholders. For example, they are no longer seeking to prohibit take in Crescent City Harbor or Humboldt Bay and are no longer proposing a limit to giant kelp harvest. Reach out to Rebecca (Rebecca.floresmiller@wildlife.ca.gov) or their kelp email address (kelp@wildlife.ca.gov) with questions. Feedback on the proposed amendments can be made to the Fish and Game Commission (fgc@fgc.ca.gov) and/or Rebecca. Feedback is better sooner rather than later. Current commercial harvest regulations can be found in the California Code of Regulations. Type in Title: 14 Section 165. More information can be found on CDFW’s website here.
The California Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) is seeking additional public feedback on how to adapt Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) and Pismo State Beach (SB) to changing environmental, safety and recreational conditions. More information here.
